By looking at something very closely we loose its context. This something becomes detached from everything else; it becomes an abstraction: "With the aid of microscope you can see the surface of the objects. It magnifies them but does not show reality. It makes things seem higher and wider. But do not suppose you are seeing things in themselves."
Feng-Shen Yin-Te in 'The Microscope' (1798)
Through this work I was interested in exploring the notion of authority and truth which is associated with scientific concepts and strategies. By employing elements of the presentation and representation methods characteristic to displays used in scientific environments, I invite the viewer to inspect my creative interpretations of the epidermis using a magnifying glass, juxtaposing the notions of the "scientific" and the "artistic".
